Canada continued to experience angry demonstrations over vaccine mandate as a state of emergency was declared in Canadian capital Ottawa with protest by truckers camping there having entered its 11th day.
In a brief statement on Sunday, Ottawa city Mayor Jim Watson declared the emergency, stating that the decision was taken “due to the ongoing demonstration”.
“Declaring a state of emergency reflects the serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents posed by the ongoing demonstrations and highlights the need for support from other jurisdictions and levels of government,” the statement said.
Truckers started rolling into Ottawa on January 28 under with the aim to remain in the city until the restrictions such as a vaccine mandate on truckers plying between Canada and the US are removed. The city has been under siege since then. They are also opposing Covid-19 measures.
