In response to speculation that the well-known linguist and activist, Noam Chomsky, 95, had passed away on Tuesday, his wife spoke out, rejecting the reports.
Noam Chomsky’s wife, Valeria Wasserman Chomsky, denied the claims that he had passed away, telling AFP that “it’s a lie, he’s doing well.”
The 95-year-old Jewish-American academic was hospitalised in a Brazilian hospital as he was recovering after a stroke he had experienced the previous year. The stroke caused him to become weak on the right side (hemiplegia).
Valeria earlier told NBC News that her husband suffers from serious damage to his right side of the body, which affects his speech.
Also, the Beneficencia Portuguesa hospital in São Paulo, where he was admitted, confirmed that the world’s most well-known public intellectual, has been released and his further treatment would continue at home.
Avram Noam Chomsky, born December 7, 1928, is an American professor and public intellectual known for his work in linguistics, political activism, and social criticism. Sometimes called “the father of modern linguistics”, Chomsky is also a major figure in analytic philosophy and one of the founders of the field of cognitive science.
