Amid global mpox scare, AIIMS issues guidelines for Delhi

Instructions were released Tuesday for treating individuals with suspected mpox symptoms as a precaution, even though no cases have been documented in India as of yet

With the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring mpox a global health emergency and warning that the virus may spread throughout Africa and beyond, countries are on high alert.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) released instructions on Tuesday for treating individuals with suspected mpox symptoms as a precaution, even though no cases have been documented in India as of yet.

The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of AIIMS for managing monkeypox are as follows:

Screening of Patients: Individuals who have a history of contact with confirmed cases of mpox, a fever, or a rash are recommended for prompt evaluation.

Identifying Symptoms: Fever, headache, sore muscles, back discomfort, swollen lymph nodes, chills, tiredness, and distinctive skin lesions are some of the main symptoms.

Beds have been set aside for the isolation of possible mpox cases.
