The UAE will once again stamp its mark as not only the hub of cricket but also as a center where innovative tournaments are held. The Sharjah Cricket Stadium, from where cricket blossomed in the UAE, will become the only ground in the world where all formats of the game will have been played at the international level. This includes Test cricket, 50-overs, T20, T10 and now the Ninety90 that is to be held during May-June 2022.
When three entrepreneurs who are passionate about cricket and have the reputation of successfully boosting the game over the years join hands to organise an event, it is bound to be a colossal one. The three entrepreneurs are Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, who brought international cricket to the UAE in the eighties and is reverently addressed as the ‘father of UAE cricket’; Salman Iqbal, CEO of the ARY Group; and Imran Chaudhry, Managing Director of the Cinergie Group of companies. To make it a spectacular event, they have the support and sanction from Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).
The event, slated to be held in May-June 2022, will be organised in partnership with the Sharjah Cricket Council and Century Events and Sports. Ninety-ball-an innings is expected to be an exciting format. The collective brainchild of these three leading entrepreneurs is expected to produce edge of the seat thrillers. Sharjah Cricket Stadium, which has the reputation of producing thrillers, will be the stage for many more dramatic moments in cricket.
According to information, several top global business houses and cricketing icons and players are all set to sign on. As usual, the best of cricketing stars and emerging players will be part of this action. Ninety-90 Bash will further add to the excitement of fans in the UAE who have made every event here a success by turning up in large numbers.
After the signing ceremony that was attended by ECB Chairman, HH Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan; ECB Vice-Chairman Khalid Al Zarooni; HE Aref Al Awani from Abu Dhabi Sports Council; and league owners Salman Iqbal, Abdul Rehman Bukhatir, Khalaf Bukhatir and Imran Chaudhary; Khalaf Bukhatir, CEO of Sharjah Stadium, said, “Having recently hosted some of the most exciting games of the IPL and T20 World Cup, we have witnessed the growing interest in the shorter format.
“With the Ninety-90 bash, we are looking forward to sustaining the momentum and giving cricket fans in the UAE what they want – sharp, edgy and action-packed cricketing action from some of the biggest names who thrive in these shorter formats of the game.”
