There’s some bad news for Elton John fans. The 77-year-old legendary singer has been dealing with a ‘severe eye infection’, which, he said, has led to ‘only limited vision’ for him.
John wrote in a post on Instagram: “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.
“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.
“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery so far.”
John’s documentary film “Elton John: Never Too Late,” is set to have its European premiere at this year’s BFI London Film Festival.
The legendary artist was born in Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25 March 1947. A British singer-songwriter-pianist, John is acclaimed by critics and musicians, particularly for his work during the 1970s.
His music and showmanship have had a significant, lasting impact on the music industry, and his songwriting partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin is considered one of the most successful in history.
John has had more than 50 top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100, including nine number-ones in both countries, as well as seven consecutive number one albums in the US.
He has sold over 300 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time, and is the most successful solo artist in the history of the US Billboard charts.
His tribute single to Diana, Princess of Wales, ‘Candle in the Wind 1997’, a rewritten version of his 1974 single, sold more than 33 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling chart single of all time.
