Top class cricket academies normally work out of top-tier cities. With exceptions of course. One such exception is coming up in Bihar’s Nawada.
IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore’s head coach Sanjay Bapusaheb Bangar, former India player Suresh Raina, wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha and left arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem have teamed up to groom cricketing talents, at a world-class cricket academy being set up in Nawada. All of them have given their consent to rendering their services at the cricket academy as guest coaches.
Nawada, a city and a municipality in Bihar, is also the headquarters of the Nawada district and is the headquarters of the subdivision of the same name, lying on both sides of the Khuri River.

Modern Education Group, which has carved out a niche for itself in the education sector, has taken up the gauntlet to transform cricketers from Nawada and adjoining districts into national and international cricketers.
World-class facilities
The cricket academy will be equipped with world-class facilities and services with an aim to make it Bihar’s best private coaching institute. The academy, as per the plans, will not only have international standard coaches but also a huge ground, world class support staff, and best coaching equipment.
Elaborating on the plans, Modern Education Group Director Dr Anuj Kumar said, “Nawada has had a huge talent pool of sportspersons from the beginning – international football player Mewalal, current cricket star Ishan Kishan, international rugby player Arati Kumari and handball player Khushboo Kumari.”
Another Ishan Kishan and more
“We have this dream that Nawada produces another Ishan Kishan, and sportspersons do not have to migrate to other places due to lack of proper facilities here in Nawada and adjoining districts,” he noted.
The work on the sports academy is going on under the supervision of former cricketer and Bihar Cricket Association’s umpire Rakesh Ranjan.
