French far-right nationalists’ victory looms large

The far-right nationalists won the first round of France’s early parliamentary elections, but centrists supporting Emmanuel Macron and the leftist camp began searching on Monday for strategies to prevent a right-wing government from taking office following this Sunday’s second round of voting.

The far-right nationalists – Marine Le Pen’s party, National Rally (RN), and its allies – are unquestionably leading the first round, according to preliminary figures released by the Interior Ministry on Monday.
