Of the World’s top cities in 2024, Delhi the only one from India to make it to list

With the onset of the winter months – and even otherwise, at other times of the year too – the Capital city of New Delhi and its adjoining NCR (National Capital Region) areas, are usually in the news for the poor air quality, and the often-dangerous level AQI (air quality index), with good air days only a handful throughout the year.

Delhi, as we know, is a constant on the list of the poorest air quality cities/capitals across the world.

However, Delhi is also counted among the most attractive cities in the world and the latest report by data analytics company Euromonitor International affirms this once again. As per the report for 2024, Delhi is the only Indian city that made it to the top 100.

On this list led by Paris (the most attractive city in the world for the fourth consecutive year), Delhi is pegged as the highest-ranked Indian city at the 74th spot – and the only Indian city to make it to the top 100.

The Euromonitor International report evaluates the cities on the basis of 55 different metrics across six key pillars: economic and business performance, tourism performance, tourism infrastructure, tourism policy and attractiveness, health and safety, and sustainability.

Media reports quoted Nadejda Popova, global head of loyalty at Euromonitor International, saying, “In 2024, global cities increasingly leveraged sports and cultural events to boost tourism revenues. Infrastructure improvements and continuous marketing have attracted travellers’ attention, creating further growth opportunities.

“Renewed concerns about overtourism are rising. In response, destinations continue to impose higher taxes and entry fees, promote year-round tourism, reward sustainable practices, and adopt GenAI solutions.”
