With fresh surge in Covid-19 cases in the country, Indonesia has temporarily banned foreign tourists from entering the country through Jakarta’s airport. The move comes with an aim to curb the fresh infections driven by the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
Omicron has already been troubling countries across the world and fresh waves are hampering movement and travel once again.
On Sunday (6 February 2022), the Southeast Asian country had reported more than 36,000 infections with bed occupancy rate at hospitals in the capital reaching 63%, media reports said.
According to media reports, the new regulations apply to foreign tourists and Indonesians who have travelled abroad for holidays, a transport ministry statement said Sunday.
