According to a report in Politico, known originally as The Politico, an American political digital newspaper company, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has voiced serious concerns about his safety while pursuing normalisation with Israel.
MBS, as Prince Mohammed bin Salman is referred to, is said to have expressed fear for his life in talks with US legislators. MBA fears such repercussions if he proceeds ahead with the accord without obtaining major concessions for the Palestinians, the report said.
Any possible normalisation agreement must include a clear route to a Palestinian state, according to MBS.
Anwar Sadat case
He cited his fear stemming from the killing of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, who was assassinated in 1981, after reaching a peace agreement with Israel.
MBS is the heir apparent to the Saudi Arabian throne. He is currently the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia. He is the seventh son of King Salman of Saudi Arabia and grandson of the country’s founder, King Abdulaziz.
He was born as the first child of King Salman and his third wife, Fahda bint Falah Al Hithlain.
After obtaining a law degree from King Saud University, he became an advisor to his father. He was appointed deputy crown prince and defence minister after his father became king in 2015, then promoted to crown prince in 2017.
MBS succeeded his father as prime minister in 2022.
