Whistleblowing publication Wikileaks founder inks deal with the US
The founder of the whistleblowing publication Wikileaks, Julian Assange, is all set to be released after reaching a settlement with the US over his protracted extradition case.
Wikileaks reports that on Tuesday night, after spending many hours in Bangkok, Assange left for the Western Pacific following his release from British detention.
In theory, the deal will liberate Assange, who has been detained in the UK due to a protracted extradition battle, if he enters a guilty plea to espionage in front of a US court.
Washington charges Assange with obtaining classified information from military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and disseminating it, thereby “allegedly endangering the lives of US intelligence sources and others”.
